Dealing With Loss
I discovered something quite disturbing a couple of days ago. We have three main computers in our house: mine, my sister's, and the old family one that Mum now likes to claim. Recently the old one crashed or something and all the files were lost. Dad's recovered Mum's and Jess's files but mine are still floating around somewhere, lost in cyberspace.
The thing is, I'm really quite upset about it. There was a lot of important stuff on that computer that I don't want to lose. For instance, my first ever piece of fanfiction, the only Buffy fanfiction I ever wrote. It was called Halo and it was utter crap. It had the biggest Mary Sue in it for a starter (a perfect character). Halo herself was:
-blonde
-beautiful
-psychic
-a bit of a self-insert (but vastly improved)
-Gile's daughter
-cloned
-dead for a while then brought back to life
-a con artist
-an unofficial Slayer
-friend of Buffy
-girlfriend of Spike
And the list goes on.
But the thing is...I treasure that crap as the first piece of writing I ever sat down and did. I mean it was over 100 pages long. At one point there was a Pokemon crossover. I *need* that.
And speaking of Pokemon, what about the parody Pokemon movie I wrote? I mean, that was gold. It was called 'The Ultimate Challenge', and yes, that title needs to be in italics. It starred Jessie, James, Meowth, a grownup Borg version of Ash, and for some unexplicable reason, Captain Jack Sparrow. I feel that loss dreadfully.
And what about all those great Team Rocket fics I collected and saved during that ghastly period when we didn't have Broadband and I had to pay by the minute when I used the internet (a whole 1p every 60 seconds! Extortionate!)? What about Eyes Through the Soul and it's sequel, Seasons, where Jessie was blinded and everything got horribly confusing and romantic? What about Feathers and Foxtails, where Jessie got a fox tail and James got wings and it got horribly confusing and romantic? What about Sweet Torture where Jessie went crazy on hairspray fumes and...everything got horribly confusing and romantic?
I NEED these files!
*sigh* Dad, this is a plea. Find those files. Please?

What do you mean - *you* had to pay for the internet at 1p a minute? Shurely shome mishtake?
If you're a good girl and do all your homework and coursework (forever - not just tonight) while smiling and being happy (rather than being ms grumpy ... hey - I get to do all the grumping in our house 'cos I'm best at it) then perhaps I might be able to recover your precccioussss rubbish for you.
Daddy xxx
p.p.s I like - (brackets) - and dashes - far cooler than - commas! -(Yuk)!
I don't know you, and you don't know me, but I would love to read Eyes Through The Soul and Seasons again. I remember doing the exact same thing, saving all the stories so I could read them offline. What nostalgia.
I know this is a wild stab and probably a little creepy, but if you can retrieve them, do you think you could send them to me? If not, it's okay, but I just thought I'd ask.
(by the way I found this by Googling "eyes through the soul")
I came across your blog by happenstance and I must say that I am very glad that I did.
I was browsing through fanfiction.net earlier this evening looking for any and all Team Rocket fanfics I could find, particularly those wonderfully melodramtic, uber addicting Rocketshippy ones that you happened to mention. Yes, I am a 20 year-old woman revisiting her pre-teen obsession, I see nothing wrong here. ;)
Besides finding enjoyment and solace in knowing I am not the only shipper still out there who remembers them and cherishes their memories, I am keen on your sense of humor and think it rather charming. Perhaps it is the fact that my California ears find your accent hypnotic, or maybe that I tend to skewer the same inane and inocuous things you do.
Whatever the reason, I got a much needed laugh tonight and I know I that I will most definately be making the return trip here.
